Everspin Releases Phishing Prevention Security App 'Phishing Block'
2025.08.25
AI security company Everspin announced on the 25th that it has released 'Phishing Block,' a security app for Android that individual users can easily use. Recently, cyberattacks directly targeting general users, such as account hijacking of major portals, distribution of malicious apps, and fake messages, have been surging. Smartphone hacking crimes occurring in daily life—where malicious apps are installed through impersonations of telecom companies, the prosecution, or police, or through obituaries, wedding invitations, or card deliveries—are caused by the ease of creating and constantly distributing new malicious apps. This is why existing vaccine apps or lists of malicious apps that caused past phishing (hacking) damage have limits in blocking. Everspin developed the B2C-only app 'Phishing Block' so that the public can reduce phishing (hacking) damage caused by malicious apps using its malicious app detection technology. Phishing Block utilizes a white-list method capable of detecting all malicious apps—not just those distributed in the past, but also new ones. An AI filter that has learned normal app data of all app markets in the world (over 23 million normal app infos) collected in real-time by AI and over 9.6 million malicious app infos precisely analyzes even malicious behavior to ultimately identify malicious apps. As such, white-list technology is a technology that can pre-block not only new malicious apps difficult to handle with a simple blacklist method but also forged/altered impersonation apps. It is embedded in many domestic financial institution apps and detects/blocks an average of 1,700 new malicious apps daily. Phishing Block performs a full scan of apps in the smartphone after initial installation and subsequently detects maliciousness in real-time whenever a user installs a new app. It detects the installation of a malicious app immediately even without running the app, provides notifications to the user, explains specific types of malicious behavior, and helps users understand and delete them. It also provides a free function to send notifications to registered family members when a malicious app is installed, which is effective in preventing phishing damage to family members. An Everspin official explained, "Malicious apps and their distribution methods are becoming so sophisticated that it has reached a level where it is very difficult for general users to distinguish whether they are normal. Phishing Block is an AI-based detection system focused on proactive prevention and is the only alternative for individuals to fundamentally prevent mobile phishing crimes and financial fraud."
