“Stop Data Scraping”... Everspin Resolves 40 Million Cases

AI security company Everspin (CEO Young-bin Ha) announced its solution and prevention results for data scraping, which has recently emerged as a significant issue. Scraping is a technique also used in hacking to automatically extract data from target websites. Recent scraping has become widely known through startups extracting data from existing businesses without permission to use for their own new services. Platforms providing services like tax refunds or loan refinancing have been operating using scraping. While such scraping-based services increase user convenience by gathering scattered information in one place, they are controversial for extracting data without the target company's consent. Additionally, they cause service delays by generating excessive traffic, creating many side effects and being viewed as problematic since no legal or institutional framework for this exists yet. Targeted institutions and companies are struggling. Recently, excessive scraping by tax platforms caused delays in the National Tax Service's Hometax service, leading to complaints from many users. Scraping access acts like a macro program, generating abnormal traffic up to dozens of times higher than normal. Everspin provides a function to detect and limit unauthorized scraping through its hacking prevention solution 'Eversafe Web.' Over the past two years, the total number of scraping cases detected through Eversafe Web reached 40 million, proving its performance. Many detected cases involved unauthorized scraping, and some instances included the collection of information that could be exploited for hacking through 'automated bots,' requiring special caution.
